NEW CURRICULUM IN DEVELOPMENT

The Urban Agenda Staff and local teachers are currently working on a new and improved curriculum for participating teachers and schools.  The new curriculum  includes lessons plans, MEAP correlation, and classroom activities that teachers will be able to download, print and use in their classroom.  There is also a section containing information about how the agenda building process and Urban Agenda Lessons correlate with national and state standards .  Look for the new curriculum now on this website.

URBAN AGENDA CONVENTIONS

Another year of Urban Agenda conventions have wrapped up.  This year there were three cluster conventions with over 1000 students from 15 various regional schools.  All opinions were represented, from private schools to public schools and from urban students to suburban students.  The conventions were held at John Page Middle School, Academy of the Americas Middle School and Wayne State University.  Many issues were discussed and an agenda for the youth of Southeastern Michigan was agreed upon.  The agenda was presented at the Wayne State convention to Judge Cynthia Gray Hathoway, Ryan Ambrozaitis (a representative from the Michigan Department of State),  Willow Hagens (Director of Jobs and Education for Wayne County), Dan S. Paletko (State Representative, 17th District), Larry Simons (Chief of Information and Technology for Wayne County), and Lucius Vassar (Director of Corporate and Civic Affairs, Office of the Mayor of Detroit).

CONTINUED INTERNATIONAL CONTACT

A delegation from the Urban Agenda offices recently traveled to India to establish contacts for the international arm of the Urban Agenda, the International School-to-School Project.  The delegation met with success presenting various education gifts from Detroit area schools like Academy of the Americas.  Links have also been recently established between schools in Ghana and Detroit area schools.  The continued success of this project is contingent upon participation.  If you are a teacher and would like to join the ISS, please contact the Director of the International School-to-School program, Lynne Partington .
